Others think we’re crazy!

Because Lending Mate™ focuses on people, not profits. We work with customers who have had a finance application declined:

  • Those who feel like they’ve been ignored; or
  • Have been put in the ‘too hard basket’ by the lenders or brokers they’ve dealt with.

We know that behind every application, there’s a human. I established Lending Mate™ to help borrowers who don’t fit standard lending criteria – to find them options and bring to light lending policy that is not widely known . Once a loan application has been declined many are left to fend for themselves, not knowing what to do next or how to approach another lender. Lending Mate is a friend who can help you pick up the pieces and match you with an alternative lender – a flexible institution that will assess your loan application on it’s merits, not an algorithm. Lenders won’t do business with you unless you meet their criteria. But at Lending Mate, it’s our job to find you a specialist lender that meets your criteria. Based on your life, not a book of conditions.

My name is Matilda (Tilly) and I live in Pakenham Victoria.  In February 2016, I started my banking journey as a teller for a major bank. Through this position I learnt the basics of banking. When the opportunity arose, I started upskilling. A couple of years later I was promoted to a customer advisor role. This involved a deeper understanding of my customers’ needs as I was completing unsecured lending applications, opening bank accounts and general insurance.

Once in this position, I completed additional study around home lending. I got promoted to a banking advisor role helping clients with their home loan applications. When COVID started I moved to support the home loan sales call centre dealing with home loan hardship calls. This role really opened my eyes as to how many customers were doing it tough during that time.

Why I became a broker

Coming from a major lender, I know first-hand that they don’t have an appetite for every type of client and were not allowed to offer alternatives when they couldn’t assist a client with a loan.  What attracted me to becoming a Mortgage Broker is the fact I have access to a panel of lenders to help those clients who are turned away and help them to achieve their dream of property ownership.  As a Broker we have a responsibility to you, known as “Best Interests Duty”, so whether you are purchasing your dream home, simply trying to improve your cashflow situation with a loan refinance or holding onto the family home, so the children are not uprooted, we must keep your best interests at the heart of everything we do.

Life is not perfect, but…

On a personal note, being brought up by a single mum for my childhood, I realised that life is not perfect, and many things happen that are out of our control, therefore I feel like I can relate to clients going through the same events on a deeper level.  Being a local offers me great work/life balance meaning that I can not only be there for my own family, but I can be available for other families, single parents and the self-employed who need help with their finances. I love real estate, buying property and learning everything about it that I can whether it be renovating to property development. This is where my journey started in finance, as you can’t buy property without finance. 😊 I also love sports, especially AFL, swimming, and golf.

At Lending Mate, our clients are not just a number. They mean everything to us and I am very happy to have this opportunity to be helping them with their own journeys.

The mates way to go about getting finance

Spotted an ultra-cheap home loan? Feel like there’s no harm in applying? Think again!

Would you apply for a job if you knew nothing about it except the salary? Where is the job located? What are the hours? Experience needed? You know nothing…right!  So why apply online for a loan when you have no idea if your personal situation will be accepted by the lender.

What do they look for in a client? Have you been employed long enough? Are your savings and income enough to qualify? What is listed on your credit file?

Don’t risk a loan being declined. Why? Because a mark might be placed on your credit file – which could make it even harder to get approved with another lender.
